What is the Graduate Record Examination?

The GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION OR THE GRE is a standardized test that is used to measure the verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills of students who wish to do their graduate studies abroad.

About GRE

The test helps to assess the calibre of the applicant for advanced study. Graduate schools in different countries use the GRE score to select applicants. Students applying to these universities must submit their GRE scores with their application.

Each student will get a unique set of questions. The maximum score for the GRE is 340. However, the GRE score is not the only criterion determining the applicant’s admission to a university. The test is only one of the factors that is taken into consideration.

The GRE consists of three main sections:

• Analytical Writing: This section measures your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. It includes two writing tasks: analyzing an issue and analyzing an argument.
• Verbal Reasoning: This section evaluates your comprehension and critical thinking skills through reading passages and questions. It tests your ability to analyze written material, understand the meaning of words and sentences, and draw logical conclusions.
• Quantitative Reasoning: This section assesses your mathematical and problem-solving abilities. It includes questions on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.

The GRE is administered in both computer-based and paper-based formats, with the majority of test-takers opting for the computer-based version. The computer-based test offers greater flexibility in scheduling and provides an adaptive format, where the difficulty level of subsequent questions is based on your performance.

Many universities and colleges consider GRE scores as part of their admission process, along with other factors such as undergraduate GPA, letters of recommendation, and statement of purpose. GRE Mock Test

GRE mock tests are used to test your readiness for the GRE examination. Practice GRE mock tests to score high on the exam. You can take the mock test as many times as you wish. The mock test is similar to the GRE examination, which consists of three sections: analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.

The mock tests allow you to get perfection in each section. Practising section-wise is most important as the universities consider the section score rather than the GRE score.

While attempting the test, the analytical writing section is conducted first, and you can choose the remaining 2 sections based on your priority. The total exam duration is 3 hours 45 minutes. The exam consists of a total of 6 different sections. After clearing the 3rd section, you are allowed to take 10 minutes break.

GRE Application Date
