The SAT is a standardized admission test used for admission in universities in the US. The Scholastic Aptitude Test is organized to test the verbal and mathematical abilities of the candidates. This exam is intended to test the high school student’s ability to study for a graduate degree in colleges in the United States. Based on the SAT score, the universities compare and offer admission for the eligible aspirants.

Who can take the SAT Exam?

SAT score is to be considered by the US universities for admission in graduate degree courses. SAT aspirants must have completed class 11 or class 12. There is no specific age requirement. Most of the students between 17 and 19 years of age groups appear for the SAT examination.

SAT Full Form

SAT is the standardized exam for aspirants seeking admission in Graduate degree courses in US universities. The full form of the SAT is Scholastic Aptitude Test. The College Board conducts the SAT examination 7 times a year.

SAT Syllabus

Reading Test

The reading test comprises, 

  • The topic of global interest (form any famous speech/document): 1 or 2 passages
  • Fiction book or course: 1 Text 
  • Social Science Document (Economics/Physics/History): 1 Text 
  • Any topic from Biology/Earth Science/ Chemistry/Physics: 1 Topics 

In the Reading test, competitors are tested on, 

  • Evidence-based questions: Choose the correct answers for the passage or section
  • Finding out the accurate meaning of the word based on the context
  • Answering the questions from History/Social by analyzing concepts. 

Writing and language test

  • 4 Different texts will be given under the writing and language section. You will get 11 MCQs about the given text. 
  • In the next section, you will get passages of 400 to 450 words. Identify the grammar and punctuation mistakes in the passage and correct the errors. 
  • The questions from History, Science, Social, or others will be covered under the writing and language test. You may get graphs and graphics in this section. 

The writing and language test questions are used to analyze,  

  • The expression and views of the writer’s ideas. 
  • The grammatical usage and punctuation of the candidate. 

Mathematics test

  • Solve 19 questions from Algebra using formulas 
  • Answer 17 questions from Analyzing and Data Solving problems. 
  • Answer 16 Questions from advanced Mathematics using various formulae and expressions.  
  • Questions from Geometry and trigonometry are also covered in this section. 

Digital SAT

Each assessment in the digital SAT Suite has two sections: the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. In every assessment in the SAT Suite, including the SAT, students have 64 minutes to complete the Reading and Writing section and 70 minutes to complete the Math section. Each Reading and Writing module lasts 32 minutes, while each Math module lasts 35 minutes. When students complete the Reading and Writing section, they are moved to the Math section after a 10-minute break between the sections.

Total testing time for the digital SAT Suite is 2 hours and 14 minutes for each assessment (SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9).
